Buying Hearing Aids at Peachtree Hearing

When it comes to buying hearing aids, whether you are a new wearer or long time veteran, it can be overwhelming considering all of the options and information. At Peachtree Hearing we are experts in hearing aids and hearing technology. Dr. Wikoff will work to find a hearing aid that is customized for you. A well fit hearing aid has you hearing with clarity and meets the needs of your lifestyle and budget.

Peachtree Hearing is proud to be an entirely independent audiology practice. That means that we don't have any ties to a specific manufacturer. Rather we work with all manufacturers to offer the widest selection of technology from which to choose. This allows us to maintain only one loyalty, and that is to our patients. Our patients and the personalized care they receive are part of what differentiates Peachtree Hearing. Lastly, by running a streamlined and family run small business we are able to keep our overhead low and pass the savings on to our customers to make wearing hearing aids more affordable.

What To Expect

At Peachtree Hearing, Dr. Wikoff will complete and review your audiological evaluation to determine if you are a candidate for a hearing aid. If amplification is your best treatment option, Dr. Wikoff will assess the wide range of options to help determine the best device for you. Sometimes you may be able to leave the office already in a pair of hearing aids, other times we may need to order them specially for you and have you back for a fitting.  Ultimately though, an accurate fitting is crucial to overall satisfaction with hearing aids. A hearing aid should amplify sounds at a clear but comfortable level while feeling secure in your ears. Hearing aids should not just make everything louder, but rather improve speech clarity in multiple listening environments.

Dr. Wikoff consulting in a hearing aid fitting

Once a hearing aid has been selected, Dr. Wikoff will explain how to use the device, how to put it in your ear and how to remove it, how to change batteries and how to care for and clean the device. It is often a good idea to bring family members or close friends to the hearing aid fitting so they can help remember all the information that is given and be a support to you.

When you put the hearing aids in for the first time, you may have different emotions and feelings about the sounds you hear. All of these feelings are normal and to be expected. The goal of the hearing aid is to make everyday sounds audible and comfortable, but the sound you hearing should be clear and pleasant. Small changes can be made to the hearing aid at your first fitting if there are things that you feel should be adjusted right away. Dr. Wikoff may do some additional testing to make sure the hearing aids are giving you enough sound where you need it.  It is important to recognize too that we hear and process sound uniquely.  If you are a first time hearing aid wearer, you may require additional custom programming sessions as you acclimate to hearing your world at a normal level again. You may be also be given a short survey or list of questions to answer. Be honest about what you hear so that Peachtree Hearing can work with you to create the best listening experience with your new hearing aids.

Lastly, attitude is the key to the hearing aid wearer's success. Hearing aid studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude do better with hearing aids. If you, as well as your spouse or family, approach your hearing aid fitting with a positive outlook, knowing that it may take some time to get used to the sounds you were missing, you will have a much better listening experience more quickly.
