A balance disorder is a condition that makes you feel dizzy or unsteady. Symptoms of a balance disorder can include lightheadedness, vertigo, disorientation, wooziness, unsteadiness, giddiness, or a sensation of floating, falling, spinning, or false movement. It is difficult to maintain equilibrium with a balance impairment. These symptoms can cause faintness, diarrhea, vomiting, anxiety, fear, and panic. Symptoms may come and go very quickly or last for a longer period of time. This can additionally lead to depression, decreased concentration, and fatigue. Needless to say, having issues with balance and dizziness can be debilitating and dangerous to your overall health.

What to Expect
Your sense of balance relies on a series of complex signals to the brain from a number of formations and organs in the inner ear which together comprise your vestibular system. A balance evaluation can help determine where a disruption may be occurring in your vestibular system. At Peachtree Hearing, you will have a complete balance evaluation to help diagnose and appropriately treat your balance disorder. The sooner a balance disorder is identified, the quicker the treatment can begin and you can start feeling better.
There are multiple causes of balance disorders including hearing loss, genetics, a viral infection, head injury, anxiety, depression, aging, and other medical conditions. Balance problems and dizziness may also be a side effect of medications.
